Hot Lava Pot is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including guests who use assistive technology. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.

What We Have Done

  • An accessibility toolbar is available on every page. Use the round accessibility button in the lower left corner to enlarge text, switch to a high contrast black and white theme, highlight every link, apply a simpler and more widely spaced font, enlarge the mouse pointer, or stop the moving slideshow. Your choices are remembered as you move between pages, and a reset button restores the original settings.
  • Text and background colours are chosen to meet the contrast ratios required at Level AA.
  • Every page can be navigated with a keyboard alone, and the focused element is always visible.
  • A "Skip to main content" link lets keyboard and screen reader users bypass the navigation.
  • Photos open in a full size viewer that works with a keyboard: press Enter or Space to open a photo, the left and right arrow keys to move between photos, and Escape to close.
  • Images carry descriptive alternative text, and decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
  • Headings follow a logical order, and page regions use landmarks so they can be found quickly.
  • Form fields have visible, correctly associated labels.
  • The layout is responsive and remains usable when text is enlarged up to 200 percent.

Accessibility is not a one time project. We review new content and features as they are added, and we welcome feedback that helps us find problems we have missed.
